2. What is the verb tense (verbets tider) of the words above? Explain the grammatical rule. Which word differs from the rest and why?

Regular verbs are changed to the simple past by adding -ed to the end of the root form. If the verb already ends in -e just add the -d, this rule only counts for the simple past words.

The word that is standing out is “began” because it doesn’t end in the same way as the others, meant by the word doesn’t end with -ed, this is because “began” is an irregular verb, which doesn’t have any specific pattern, if you are unsure about how to tense an irregular word, you can check all of the irregular words in an English word book.
